Hello, everyone, I am GoldMan27, and today, I am going to rant about junior moderation (aka, mini-modding).

So, what is this "junior moderating" I speak of? Quite simple really, it's what happens when senior members of a forum (usually members who have been on the forum for quite a long time and fully understand forum law, or so they think), decide to take the law into their own hands and reinforce it unlawfully. To paraphrase that for you simpletons who do not comprehend a wide vocabulary, it means members who have been on the forum for a long time decide to start pushing around newer members by posting in their threads saying they are breaking a law.

So, you know what junior moderating is now, now you're probably wondering why we hate it? Quite simple really, because a members CIVIC DUTY, is to REPORT A USER WHEN HE OR SHE IS BREAKING A LAW! NOT TO FRICKING POST IN THEIR THREAD AND TELL THEM WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND CREATE A FLAME WAR ABOUT IT FOR 2 PAGES!
To dumb that down, we mean that you should SILENTLY report when a user is unknowingly breaking a law. Posting in their thread saying they have broken a law (repeatedly), means that a user (or users, plural) is junior moderating. A simple report will quickly give Moderator's the 411 on what is happening, and they can deal with the situation, rather than the community having to dogpile on a new member and bombard him or her with posts stating what they did wrong.

So, how do we prevent junior moderating? Simple, REPORT THE BLASTED USER! We may have a Neighborhood Watch Committee on the forum, but in no way do we expect them to be junior moderators, we expect them to be exactly as the name states, Neighborhood Watch. Another method for prevention of junior moderating would be to QUIETLY AND POLITELY tell the user they are breaking a law. Posting about it in public is a sure-fire way to spark a flame war. I would also recommend you only tell them ONCE, pestering them about it may result in a flame war. If the user is being a jerk and disobeying your requests, then fire a report to the Moderators and we'll get on the case and hopefully straighten them out.

So, if you didn't feel like reading that (who wouldn't? all that bold, underlined text...), allow me to summarize my points:

  • Junior moderating: When long-time users decide to take the law into their own hands and bully a newcomer for unknowingly breaking a law.
  • We hate it because it portrays a poor image for other users who may want to join the forum, and it can and will cause decline in the amount of users who register on the forum daily.
  • You can prevent junior moderating by simply reporting a user's thread, or firing a PM with evidence of a newcomer breaking a forum law. We heavily recommend against posting on user's thread stating they broke a law, and rather encourage if you silently and politely let them know they broke a law (pestering them repeatedly does not equal "politely").
And so, I finish my rant on junior moderating, and why us Moderators hate it. If you see a user (or multiple users) junior-moderating, report IMMEDIATELY to a Moderator, and we will deal with the situation.

That is all.

Well said, good sir. Junior mods are pretty much the closest thing to vigilante justice, and that's not exactly the BEST way to handle situations. Help is appreciated, but make sure to do it the right way.
Like we have said many times before, the report system is the most effective way to sort things out.

Hey, who said that we hate junior mod? THATS ME!
Listen up. You've made a mistake. Everyone makes a mistake. Why not use it to your advantage and learn from it? Why would you suddenly want to be banned? A lot of the old members has done junior moderating. Why would you be so hard on you self?

Well is it a law, or is it the rules.
If you break the law, the police are to be notified and the "junior moderator" is arrested. Because he or she broke the law and committed a crime. That is a law. Then you act as if you are some official that has the right to take the "law" in your hand. Rules are different. Rules that are broken are to be fixed by the one who created the rule. Laws and rules are completely different in terms of handling them. You have only the right to fix broken rules. Not laws. Then you mock the public by saying,"user(or users, plural)
I mean no dip. For a staff member that can be seen as something inappropriate placing yourself above the younger members in a very rude way. And if someone is breaking the law then the officials should deal with it.
I expect a better attitude from a staff member. But of course, I'm just a "simpleton" with 0 vocab experience.

@TheRussian
I thought long and hard as to how I was going to reply to this. Not gonna lie, I wrote that rant with pure rage backing me up, so I apologize for any inaccuracies. Furthermore, I too have a comprehensive vocabulary, however I will admit "Forum Rules" and "Forum Law" have gone hand and hand with other members amongst the community. In any case, I apologize if this post made me seem like the bad guy here. I rarely get fueled or enraged, but when I do my actions can be...rather unwise.

In any case, this was a matter that was serious in the forum 20 some-odd days ago (as of this post). When I saw that 23 reports were made, and the older members were bashing down a forum member, it kind of forced me to take action rather violently. I'l admit I tend to "stick out for the little guy", albeit perhaps too defensively, but nonetheless I did not intend to create a bad image for myself, moreso I intended to strongly send my message across.

Again, my apologies.

My little bro made that comment. In his younger age he found it a little offensive somehow even though he has nothing to do with this. And I'm surprised with not only his vocabulary but with yours as well. And yes my little bro made the comment through rage as well. I talked to him about it. No harm done my friend.

Ah, I see. I was partially questioning your impeccable use of vocabulary in that post as well. Nonetheless, glad to hear it.

Tutorials like these are really needed at a time like this were the forums are flooded with trolls and 7 year olds...

Keep up the good work, GoldMan27!

"If the user is being a jerk and disobeying your requests, then fire a report to the Moderators and we'll get on the case and hopefully straighten them out". @GoldMan27 You forgot to fix this line, lol. This line actual makes the whole post invalid because its against your own point.
It's not really invalid. There's a fine line between pestering someone about what they are doing, and politely telling them what they are doing. In this case above, I am saying if you have tried to politely tell the person what they are doing wrong, and they do not listen, then report the user, and the Moderators will hopefully straighten said person out.

Plus, I was writing this with blind rage at the time, so it wouldn't shock me if there were inaccuracies in my post. I don't know of many people who can talk/type/write with pure rage in their head, and still think rationally enough to create a flawless work.

AHeM!, "disobeying your requests". Lets see how this could play out, Bob: Hey, you better delete those posts about glitching, its against the forum rules to show exploits.
Other Bob: No its not, you better back off. Bob: Ok yore in some big trouble buddy im going to ban you if you don't delete those posts. Other Bob: Please don't ban me, its just a post about gun quick reloading. Other Bob: I said, Delete the post or be banned, and dont tell anyone about this conversation or im going to ban you as well. ... And you can dream up your own scenario. And cant you edit that rule for everyone to see please
Uh? What dose this have.... -sigh-

I am talking about junior moderating, when did actual Moderator duties (i.e., banning) fit into this? I typed up the rant because I was upset that the forums senior members decided to attempt vigilante justice and took it way too far. All I ask is a simple polite nod, and if they take that the wrong way, nod again. If they still act like a jerk about it, then report them.

No idea why you are so hung on on "disobeying your requests", unless you think I worded it so that users have a dominion over each new member? If it's that much of a grammatical eyesore I'l edit it.
