Heavy, you have no idea how much this whole "leaving thing" relates to a few friends of mine. I have this one friend who's always posting that he's leaving a forum community I'm apart of. After a few weeks, he comes back, then a few months later, he leaves again. Everytime, he posts that he's leaving, and everytime, he posts he's coming back.
I guess what I'm saying Heavy, people have commitments. Yes, there are such things as internet connection delays, but eventually, when ya say you're leaving and then you come back a few days/weeks/month or so later, it's kind of self-defeating in that sense.
Heck, I too have made commitments that say I'l be leaving the forums for a while. It has happened, and I have returned.
At the heart of it all Heavy, I'm saying this, as a friend. If you are planning to reduce your activity on the site, nobody's going to judge you for it. Heck, I'm barely active on another site I'm apart of, and they don't care at all (though I still attempt to attend events when I see them pop-up).
Take down the poll, and just say you'll be less active on the forum. That's it, nobody's going to push ya one way or another over it.
