Profile Syncing

Hello,

Today I come with an idea that I believe RiliSoft should heavily consider implementing soon. As many are aware, iOS 8 is possibly the last iOS update for the iPad 2 line, and as you are also aware, we have many users on here with outdated devices/iOS versions who play Pixel Gun 3D on their devices. (Android I guess can suffer similar fate, Windows Phones is unknown at this point.) Considering that our devices within the next 2 years will become ineligible to play Pixel Gun 3D (or at least, many of our devices), I believe it is best that RiliSoft implement a profile system for users. That way, a user has their data saved to a server, rather than the device's memory (not only does this save storage space on our devices, it also makes transitioning from one device to the other way easier!) The way this profile system would work more or less, would be having users make an account on the game with a username and password (perhaps differentiate a username and display name, that way friending would be way easier!) Once the account is made, all game data (level, guns, coins, etc.) would be saved onto your profile. This way, when our devices do become obsolete, we can simply login to our profile on the app, and have all of our stats back on a new device!

Forgive the wall of text, but I believe this should be added to the game, it would benefit lots of players, especially the ones with outdated devices/software.

Great idea i have an ipad2 and i think i am not going to be able to play pg3d and the downsides that rai said are a problem but it will be better to risk it than half the community not going to be able to play anymore.

This does have some downsides to it:
• If your account gets hacked... You may lose your skins, or your account...
• You forget you username and password, your doomed...
• It could cause some server problems...
• You can just use a computer/ICloud to transfer data...
A few solutions to that:
  • Why (or who for that matter) would anyone care to hack a CHILDREN'S VIDEO GAME? Honestly, that's the sort of thing some amateur hacking group would go after. Granted Russian hackers are incredibly devious, but it's doubtful they'd stoop so low as to ruin a video game (especially if they can take on LinkedIn ;)).
  • We insert a "forgot password" option. (Seriously, does nobody use this thing anymore?)
  • Profile data and gaming data would most likely be hosted off separate servers. Combining the data in one place is foolish. (Anyone who's a techie already knows you keep multiples of everything just in case.)
  • The iCloud feature has a 50/50 shot of working (as witnessed multiple times in this forum), so it's somewhat risky to transfer data to iCloud, especially if you don't know what you are doing. The profile option would be easier for the younger, less tech-savvy people.
Same with Random's statement, better to make a risk than lose half a community due to obsolete hardware/software.

It was my statement:| +will you be able to tell rilisoft about your idea i think they will add it

Only got one thing here to counter...
Final •: But computer, you can use to transfer most data to other devices (unless you don't have a computer, but who doesn't?)
So the profile system would just be a little bit faster way to transfer data...
Although servers are computers themselves, not many people are tech savvy enough to transfer their data to a computer, and transfer it back to another device. Believe me, if it were that simple, we wouldn't be having such a conversation.

Nonetheless, it seems my iPad 2 is a lagfest suddenly whenever I try to play PG3D. I lag everytime I get a kill, and lag intermittently inbetween kills. It took me 5 minutes to join a server today, and even then I was lucky I got 7 kills, each of which was followed by a severe bout of lag.

Better get crackin' on a solution fast, RiliSoft, ya might just lose a dedicated fan right here.

I have an ipad 2, yet I'm doing fine. Are you sure it isn't your wifi?
Oh wait, my wifi is already really bad.
Well then, it may be your location, as you may live far away from the server?

Rai and I both live in Canada, and live a relatively far distance from the server (as does I believe about everyone here). Distance from the server and internet connection serve no real issue for me here (outdated hardware seems to be the matter for me).

Nonetheless, let's keep back on subject. Profile syncing, everyone else agree?

Basically, I find this idea very, very effective. Maybe if we implement some aspects of an online community for clans using these profiles, it would be even better in my opinion.
I live in Can too. fyi

Off-Topic: Sweet, which province?

On-Topic: I agree with the ability to add this feature to clans as well. It would extraordinary too if RiliSoft developed a plugin that would display a link to the profile from here.

Actually, I might suggest to VashX that we have a Clan namespace on our profiles, so the IGN space isn't so cluttered.

Off-Topic: Ontario
On-Topic: Yeah. An online profile for clans would be amazing. Also, it would be best if all our player info (e.g. number of kills, games won) is also available online.

I fully agree an online leaderboard/profile site of the sort would be awesome for the players. That way people can look up their profiles on a website, and perhaps compares top scores in co-op survival to one another.

Off-Topic: Same here! :tongueout:
