Hello, everyone, I am GoldMan27, and today, I am going to rant about junior moderation (aka, mini-modding).
So, what is this "junior moderating" I speak of? Quite simple really, it's what happens when senior members of a forum (usually members who have been on the forum for quite a long time and fully understand forum law, or so they think), decide to take the law into their own hands and reinforce it unlawfully. To paraphrase that for you simpletons who do not comprehend a wide vocabulary, it means members who have been on the forum for a long time decide to start pushing around newer members by posting in their threads saying they are breaking a law.
So, you know what junior moderating is now, now you're probably wondering why we hate it? Quite simple really, because a members CIVIC DUTY, is to REPORT A USER WHEN HE OR SHE IS BREAKING A LAW! NOT TO FRICKING POST IN THEIR THREAD AND TELL THEM WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND CREATE A FLAME WAR ABOUT IT FOR 2 PAGES!
To dumb that down, we mean that you should SILENTLY report when a user is unknowingly breaking a law. Posting in their thread saying they have broken a law (repeatedly), means that a user (or users, plural) is junior moderating. A simple report will quickly give Moderator's the 411 on what is happening, and they can deal with the situation, rather than the community having to dogpile on a new member and bombard him or her with posts stating what they did wrong.
So, how do we prevent junior moderating? Simple, REPORT THE BLASTED USER! We may have a Neighborhood Watch Committee on the forum, but in no way do we expect them to be junior moderators, we expect them to be exactly as the name states, Neighborhood Watch. Another method for prevention of junior moderating would be to QUIETLY AND POLITELY tell the user they are breaking a law. Posting about it in public is a sure-fire way to spark a flame war. I would also recommend you only tell them ONCE, pestering them about it may result in a flame war. If the user is being a jerk and disobeying your requests, then fire a report to the Moderators and we'll get on the case and hopefully straighten them out.
So, if you didn't feel like reading that (who wouldn't? all that bold, underlined text...), allow me to summarize my points:
That is all.

So, if you didn't feel like reading that (who wouldn't? all that bold, underlined text...), allow me to summarize my points:
- Junior moderating: When long-time users decide to take the law into their own hands and bully a newcomer for unknowingly breaking a law.
- We hate it because it portrays a poor image for other users who may want to join the forum, and it can and will cause decline in the amount of users who register on the forum daily.
- You can prevent junior moderating by simply reporting a user's thread, or firing a PM with evidence of a newcomer breaking a forum law. We heavily recommend against posting on user's thread stating they broke a law, and rather encourage if you silently and politely let them know they broke a law (pestering them repeatedly does not equal "politely").
That is all.
