How does clans work

I can not seem to find out how exactly clans are working. In other games, like MCOC where i was, still am though i stopped playing ,leader of an alliance which is the same as clans, there is different games inside MCOC you can play together as an alliance or clan, but am i missing something in PG3d? So my question is, what is the purpose of clans and why should a player join a clan?
 
Thanks for the answer.. I thought that PG3d was more popular than World, since almost everybody has a phone or tablet, but it seems to me, though i have not looked deeper into this, that they are more focus on the pc game.. I have been in this forum for 3 weeks and i have yet to see a post from the developer...
