Rocket/gravity jumping in 8.0.0

Maybe it's just me, but I find that gravity jumping is significantly more difficult to pull off in 8.0.0 without losing a good portion of health almost every time. I can't gravity jump at all without losing health (or killing myself) while I'm moving, and even when I try to gravity jump without moving around, the timing of firing the weapon at the apex of the jump has a much smaller margin of error than it did before.

Since gravity jumping has always been my primary tactic in scoring a huge advantage over other players, this problem has become the bane of my gameplay. I'm using crystal armor, and there's no question that the 6 extra HP is worth the sacrifice of damage/movement-boosting headgear, so I'm forced to wear the Miner cape in order to jump off high enough to gravity jump without losing health each time. The problem is that the Miner cape doesn't provide any useful combat advantage. I tried to use the Archimage cape or Custom cape if I could, so that I'd at least be able to heal or have a movement/damage advantage, but the 5% jump boost that those capes provide isn't enough to rectify the problem.

So, in order to take full advantage of the crystal armor while retaining the gravity jump trick, I have to completely forgo damage and movement boosts. Ugh!
