Typing symbols

I see a lot of usernames in-game have symbolsin them like hearts, heart outlines, stars and even musical notes. These hearts don't look like the classic alt+6 (or whatever it is) text hearts we saw on pcs. How do you make these symbols? Are they purely in game? Can they be typed, or are they code like color and italics?
